Baby Rib Hat With Pom-Pom 

For Newborn - 1 year- old

This ribbed hat is knitted in round using a machine washable acrylic by Lion Brand.  I choose this denim jean color for a baby boy. This hat is for a newborn and it can probably stretch up to fit to a year old.  The yarn is nice, soft and stretchy. It is easy to knit.

Gauge: 5 sts per inch.

Measurement: 16 inches at the base but can stretch up to a few more inches.

Here are things you need to make this baby ribbed hat with a pom-pom.

1. 1 skein Jeans Jean Vaqueros by Lion Brand (it comes in 100gm ball).  Or 50 gm of yarn with the same gauge.
2. A set of Double Pointed Needles US #7 (4.5mm) or you can use magic loop method with a very long cable needle.
3. A pom pom maker (optional)
4. A pair of Scissors
5. Tapestry needle (big-eyed needle).

Direction

Cast on 80 sts. Join yarn and knit in round as follow;

Round 1: *K2, p3; repeat from * to end of round.

Repeat rnd 1 until the piece is measured about 51/2 inches. Then begin crown shaping as shown in the chart and written direction below.

Crown Shaping Chart - start decreasing from row 1 and repeat this chart 7 times more to complete the hat.

Rnd 1: *K2, p2tog, p1, k2, p3; repeat from * to end of rnd.

Rnd 2-4: *K2, p2, k2, p3; repeat from * to end of rnd.

Rnd 5: *K2, p2, k2, p2tog, p1; repeat from * to end of rnd.

Rnd 6-8: *K2, p2, k2, p2; rep from * to end of rnd.

Rnd 9: *K2, p2tog, k2, p2; rep from * to end of rnd.

Rnd 10-11: *K2, P1, K2, P2; rep from * to end of rnd.

Rnd 12: *K2, p1, k2, p2tog; rep from * to end of rnd.

Rnd 13-14: *K2 p1, k2, p1; rep from * to end of rnd.

Rnd 15: *K2tog, p1, k2tog, p1; repeat to end of rnd.

Rnd 16: *K1,p1, k1,p1; rep to end of rnd.

Rnd 17-18: *k2tog; rep from *to end of rnd.

Cut yarn leaving about 10 inches of tail.  Using tapestry needle and to tread the yarn though all the sts left on needle a few time to close up the hole.  Make Pom Pom and attach it to the tip of the hat. I'd recommend using a pom pom maker because it's easy and mess free to make.
