how do I work 8 rows x4

pattern says work 4 rows : ie stocking stich
dec row : (which is fine.)
Work the last 8 rows x4 and the dec row again.
(this is the bit i do not understand)
Please help.
what does it mean by saying work last 8 rows x4?

It means to repeat the work of the last 8 rows 4 times.
You can look back and see what the directions for the last 8 rows are and then just repeat them again and again until you have a total of 32 rows counting from the beginning of the 8 row repeat.
