When To Start Counting Rows For X Instruction Every Y Rows

by Joan
(Rapid City, MI, USA)

My pattern has a decrease row. Then the instruction reads "...work Dec Rnd every 12th row". Do I start counting with the decrease row or the row after? Do I increase on 12, 24 etc or somehow is there another row in there (i.e. knit 12 rows then increase). I've always been confused about this type of instruction.

Thank you,

Joan

When To Start Counting Row
by: Ratchadawan

Hi Joan,

I think you've got the right idea about the decrease. I can understand how frustrated it can be when you're not sure about what to do with pattern.

So, what you do is continue working for 11 rows of the pattern setting a row counter as you work each row. Then on row 12, you will do the decrease. Then do decrease again on row 24, 36 and so forth depending on how many times the instruction says. There shouldn't be any hidden row in there anywhere.

So, there you have it. Good luck with your project and thanks for dropping by.
